Mushroom Hunts Open to the Public

MMHC offers a number of events throughout the mushroom hunting season. Additionally it hosts an annual Spring potluck, Winter gathering, and mid-winter planning session open to all members. For information concerning upcoming public events just click on one of the buttons below. Please note that these public hunts represent only about 20% of the hunts that are held by and available to our club members. For information regarding membership in the MMHC please click here.

From time-to-time changes need to be made to the schedule and are not always reflected on this page. We recommend that if you are going to be attending a hunt you contact the hunt leader to verify the date, time, and location of the hunt.

Please remember to leave ‘roots’ of the mushrooms in the ground when harvesting so that the mycelium is preserved.

Each participant is kindly requested to bring a net bag of some kind, or mesh type of basket so that spores from morels will be distributed during the walks.

NOTE: Hopefully it will  be a good exploration of the woods and some fun learning about mushrooms and their environments. However, with the unusual hot and dry weather this week in Isabella County, I predict that the chances for finding morels and spring mushrooms will be rare. Please contact Sister Marie, hunt leader, at 989-772-9453 if you have questions.

Meet at the Woods and park at the main gate parking lot area on the south side of M-115 & walk to the cabin. There will be an optional second hunt, after lunch, going north into Roscommon County.

To reach the hunt site from the Detroit area take I-75 north to US-10 west. Follow US-10 west to M-115 exit; about 10 miles past the Michigan DOT Visitor Center. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp and drive 1.3 miles. The entrance is on the left.

To reach the hunt site from the Lansing area take US-127 north to the US-10 west exit ramp just past the Michigan DOT Visitor Center. Follow US-10 about 8.5 miles to the M-115 exit. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp and drive 1.3 miles. The entrance is on the left.
